YOUTH FAITH FORMATION

Our youth faith formation program at Holy Rosary provides opportunities for children and teens to grow in their faith through instruction in Catholic beliefs and traditions, participation in prayer and an understanding of how to live their faith each day.

Formation in the Faith is the best gift we can hand down to our children. At their child’s Baptism, each parent accepts the responsibility of training their child in the practice of the faith. The Church teaches that the parent’s role in the formation of Christian values in their children is irreplaceable. Our program aims to help parents in their responsibility to pass down the teachings of Jesus revealed through His church.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD: AGE 4 THROUGH GRADE 2

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) take place on Sundays during the 9:00 am Mass (fall, winter and spring) and the 10:00 am Mass (summer). After the opening prayer, the priest invites the children to come forward to the center aisle.
The catechist leads the children to the Parish Living Room where they will hear their own Liturgy of the Word. Children are taught a simplified main message of the readings and are encouraged to share that message with their parents after Mass. After the Prayers of the Faithful, all children return to their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

ELEMENTARY FAITH FORMATION:  AGE 4 THROUGH GRADE 6

Classes are held weekly on Wednesday evenings during the school year from 6:30 – 7:45 pm. We use the textbook series entitled, “Finding God” by Loyola Press.  This curriculum integrates the fundamental themes of the Catechism of the Catholic Church with Scripture and Catholic Social Teachings.

FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST

In the 2nd grade, children prepare for and receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.  Preparation for these sacraments includes several parent sessions on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:45PM and two Saturday morning retreats for 2nd grade children.  The “Blessed” sacrament preparation program by Dynamic Catholic is also used in the faith formation classroom for part of the school year to prepare children for the sacraments.
