The Emmaus ministry is an expression of our awareness that caring is a responsibility of the whole faith community. It is care initiated by the caregiver afterreferral by the Holy Rosary Pastoral Staff. Emmaus Ministers are trained volunteers from our faith community. The Emmaus minister responds to the person cared for by journeying with them. This includes the perceptions, needs, capacities, interests and decisions of that person. We act as a facilitator helping a person recognize their own inner resources and use them. We do not do things for them

Emmaus Ministers are needed in several different areas. This includes grief after any kind of loss, health concern, parenting, loneliness, shut-ins, caregivers, addiction or addictive behavior. Realizing that individuals need community and the community needs the individuals, the end result of Emmaus Ministry is the integration of the person cared for with the community of faith and the community of faith with the person cared for.

Everyday Angels

Please remember the Everyday Angels project! We collect new and gently used items and distribute them to area families who are in great need of a hand up. Everyday Angels accepts any items needed by one who is starting over from loss of a home or those facing financial hardship due to illness, loss of income, etc. You can be an “Everyday Angel” and pass along the items you have outgrown or no longer need to those who need them most. Refer to the bulletin as every 2-3 weeks we feature a new family from our area. We welcome new or gently used items in good, clean condition. Everyday Angels also collects items not included on the current wish list; we will store them for future use and distribute accordingly. Continually needed items include: household goods, beds, linens, clothing (socks & underwear), outerwear, footwear, furniture, educational toys, books and games.

Bring items to Holy Rosary and place in the “Everyday Angel” box in the welcoming center.  How gratifying to know that our unused and outgrown items can make a huge difference in the life of someone else! For more information, please contact Susan Deraney (218) 849-1856 or Melissa Lorentz (218) 234-0777.

Prayer Blanket Outreach S

The Prayer Blanket Outreach has recently been brought to Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A parishioner received a healing blanket from a co-worker to give to his nephew who was going through treatment for cancer.  The nephew received the blanket just prior to his surgery and expressed how comforting it was to have the blanket knowing there were people out there praying for his recovery.  This small blanket provides much comfort and prayerful support during times of sickness, loneliness, loss, treatments, and the difficult times of loved ones.  The intention behind the blankets is that the recipients (whatever the illness or injury may be) receive healing in mind, body and spirit and know that they are not alone.

Anyone who requests a blanket receives one and at no charge.  Each blanket is accompanied by a booklet entitled “Covered in Prayer”, which includes prayers for all occasions.  The Prayer Blanket Ministry has created several healing blankets for those in need of comfort and prayer.

To obtain a blanket, to inquire information on becoming a part of this ministry or to make a monetary or fabric donation please contact the Holy Rosary Parish Office at 218-847-1393.
